Description
Experience the sleek design and formidable capabilities of the Aichi E16A1 Zuiun, brought to life in this 1/72 scale plastic model kit from Aoshima's W.W.II Wings series. Known by the Allied codename "Paul," the Zuiun was a distinctive Japanese deck reconnaissance seaplane that uniquely combined the ability to launch from water with performance rivaling single-engine fighters. Developed for the Imperial Japanese Navy, it was designed to operate from the catapults of cruisers and battleships, as well as from shore bases, offering crucial reconnaissance and attack capabilities.
This meticulously detailed kit allows enthusiasts to recreate the aircraft's elegant lines and characteristic features. The real E16A1 Zuiun was notable for its innovative design, including dive brakes integrated into the forward float struts, enabling it to perform as a dive bomber in addition to its reconnaissance role. Its armament included two 20mm Type 99 Model 2 cannons and a movable 7.7mm Type 97 machine gun in the rear, with the capacity to carry up to 250 kg of bombs. These aircraft played roles in reconnaissance, bombing smaller targets, and escorting convoys during World War II.
