Description
Uncover the legacy of Japanese aviation with the Fujimi 1/72 Tachikawa IDA "Ki55 & Ki36" model kit. This exceptional offering allows enthusiasts to build two distinct versions of a pivotal aircraft from the Second World War era.
The Tachikawa Ki-36 was originally conceived as a Japanese military collaboration aircraft, serving as a light bomber and reconnaissance platform. It featured a robust metal low-wing structure and was powered by a 510 HP Hitachi Ha-13a radial engine. First flying in April 1938, the Ki-36 saw extensive serial production from 1938 to 1944, with approximately 1,300 units built. It played a significant role in the initial phases of the Japanese-Chinese War and the early months of the Pacific War, with some later examples even utilized in kamikaze operations.
From the Ki-36, the Tachikawa Ki-55 "Ida" emerged as a dedicated advanced trainer. This variant was essentially a de-militarized Ki-36, with its offensive armament, bomb racks, and lower gear spats removed. A second set of controls was added to the rear cockpit, transforming it into an ideal training platform. The Ki-55 was widely adopted by Army training schools and various Japanese "satellite" countries, including Thailand and Manchukuo.
This Fujimi kit boasts well-molded parts with finely engraved recessed panel details, providing a solid foundation for an accurate replica. The subtle fabric representation on the control surfaces further enhances realism.
