The Bell P-39 Airacobra stands out as one of the most unconventional fighter designs of World War II, featuring a mid-mounted engine located behind the pilot and a unique tricycle landing gear system. This 1/48 scale kit from Hasegawa captures the innovative engineering of the Airacobra, specifically focusing on the mass-produced N and Q variants that saw extensive service across all theaters, most notably with the Soviet Air Force in ground-attack roles.

The kit is engineered with the high level of detail expected from the Hasegawa JT series, featuring crisp, recessed panel lines and a well-appointed cockpit. Because the engine was positioned in the center of the fuselage, the nose was left free to house a massive 37mm T9 cannon that fired directly through the propeller hub, a feature faithfully replicated in this model. Builders can choose to represent the P-39N with its standard wing armament or the final production P-39Q, which replaced the internal wing guns with distinctive 12.7mm external gun pods.

A hallmark of this kit is the inclusion of clear molded car-style doors, allowing for an easier assembly of the cockpit windows and providing a clear view of the interior details. The parts are molded in light gray styrene and include options for different exhaust stack configurations to match specific historical aircraft.
