[SWA-1] 1/76 JGSDF tank type 61 (4-1)

A detailed replica of Japan's first post-war Main Battle Tank, the Fujimi [SWA-1] 1/76 JGSDF Type 61 (4-1) plastic model kit brings a significant piece of military history to your workbench. This kit captures the essence of the Type 61, a vehicle specifically designed for the unique operational demands of Japan's Self-Defense Forces.

Developed in the late 1950s, the Type 61 was a robust medium tank, with serial production running from 1961 to 1975, resulting in approximately 560 units. It was engineered to replace the M4 Sherman tanks and was tailored for the challenging, mountainous terrain of the Japanese islands, emphasizing high mobility.

This highly detailed 1/76 scale kit allows enthusiasts to construct a faithful representation of this iconic Japanese tank. The Type 61 was powered by a Mitsubishi 12HM21WT engine, delivering 570 horsepower. Its armament included a potent 90mm cannon, complemented by a 12.7mm Browning M2 machine gun and a 7.62mm Browning M1919A4 machine gun. The tank featured armor up to 114mm on the front of the turret.

Please note for collectors: Older Fujimi kits in this series were known to include vinyl tracks which could be prone to hardening and breakage. While this kit is a 2010 rebox, it is advisable to check if it contains the earlier vinyl tracks or the newer, more durable link-and-length hard plastic tracks found in later releases.
