[TOKU-69] 1/700 IJN Heavy Cruiser Mogami 1942

Capture the Imperial Japanese Navy’s formidable Mogami in its heavy cruiser configuration as it appeared during the pivotal early months of the Pacific War. This 1/700 scale waterline model focuses on the ship’s 1942 fit, specifically recreating its appearance from the outbreak of hostilities through the Battle of Midway. Unlike later conversions into an aircraft cruiser, this kit highlights the Mogami with its full heavy cruiser silhouette, featuring the distinct hull cross-section and unblocked portholes characteristic of its early-war service.

Fujimi has updated this release with high-resolution molds to provide exceptional detail for experienced modelers. The hull features a molded outboard electrical path and accurately placed port lights, while the bridge area includes a delicately carved grating on the air defense command post and compass bridge floors. To simplify the painting process without sacrificing detail, several components like the 96-type 25mm machine guns and the 9-meter cutters are designed as multi-part assemblies. The 12.7cm high-angle guns have also been upgraded to a six-part construction for significantly improved resolution compared to older toolings.

The kit includes a specialized selection of shipboard boats and aircraft to complete the mid-1942 look. You will find a 12-meter internal fire launch that can be built with or without its canvas cover, along with 11-meter boats featuring separate canopy parts. For the aviation deck, the set provides a Type 0 three-seater reconnaissance aircraft and two Type 95 seaplanes, allowing for a realistic deck display.
