Description
Delve into the late-war innovation and desperation of the Imperial Japanese Navy with the Fujimi [G-up No96] 1/700 Ouka & Reppu Set. This meticulously crafted collection brings together two pivotal aircraft designs, offering modelers a unique glimpse into the final stages of naval aviation development during World War II. Perfect for enhancing your 1/700 scale dioramas or expanding your collection of historical aircraft.
The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka, famously known by its Allied designation "Baka Bomb," was a purpose-built, rocket-powered human-guided kamikaze attack aircraft. Conceived out of wartime desperation, the Ohka Model 11 was armed with a formidable 1,200-kilogram warhead and propelled by three solid-fuel rocket motors. Designed for a one-way mission, it had no landing gear and was carried into battle by a larger bomber, such as the Mitsubishi G4M "Betty," before being released to achieve speeds up to 990 km/h in its terminal dive. These unique aircraft saw combat primarily during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945.
Complementing the Ohka is the Mitsubishi A7M Reppū, or "Strong Wind," a carrier-based fighter designed to be the successor to the legendary A6M Zero. Developed by Mitsubishi, the Reppū aimed for superior speed, climb, diving, armament, and maneuverability. Though only a few prototypes were completed and it never entered mass production or active service due to wartime limitations, the A7M2 variant, powered by the Mitsubishi Ha-43 engine, demonstrated impressive performance and excellent handling. Known by the Allied reporting name "Sam," the Reppū represents a significant, albeit unrealized, leap in Japanese fighter technology.
This set provides an excellent opportunity to recreate historical scenes or simply appreciate the engineering of these distinctive aircraft.
