[F-1] 1/72 Aichi B7A1 "Grace"

The Aichi B7A1 "Grace" in 1/72 scale from Fujimi brings to life one of the Imperial Japanese Navy's most formidable, yet ultimately underutilized, carrier attack bombers of World War II. Known by its Japanese designation "Ryusei" (Shooting Star), this aircraft was a groundbreaking design intended to replace both the Nakajima B6N torpedo bomber and the Yokosuka D4Y dive bomber on a new generation of larger aircraft carriers.

Despite its advanced design and impressive performance, including speed and maneuverability comparable to the A6M Zero fighter, the B7A1 faced significant production delays due to issues with its Nakajima Homare engine. By the time it entered limited production, Japan had lost most of its aircraft carriers, relegating the "Grace" to land-based operations in the final months of the war. Only around 105 to 114 examples were completed, making it a rare and historically significant aircraft.

This Fujimi kit accurately captures the distinctive features of the B7A1, including its unique inverted gull-wing configuration, which allowed for shorter landing gear and improved propeller clearance. The outer wing panels, designed to fold hydraulically for carrier stowage, are also represented.
